The Tiro collection is Adidas’ training and activewear collection. Two popular editions are the 2017 and 2019 collections. So what’s the difference between the Adidas Tiro 17 and 19?

The biggest difference between the Tiro 17 and 19 is the overall fit. Adidas Tiro 19 has a baggier fit at the butt and thigh area, which provides better freedom of movement, whereas the Tiro 17 has a tighter fit.

However, there are other differences between the design of the logo and the placement of certain materials as well. In this post, let’s examine the Tiro 17 vs. 19 comparisons.

Key Differences Between Tiro 17 and 19

1. Tiro 19 has a baggier fit than the Tiro 17 – The Tiro 19 provides a roomier butt and thigh fit than the Tiro 17, which gives better movement and reduces constriction.
2. Tiro 19 three stripes are longer – The Tiro 17 “three stripes” runs only from the waist to the knees, whereas the Tiro 19 “three stripes” runs from the waist to the ankles.
3. Tiro 19 has no mesh strip around the waistline – The Tiro 19 does not have the see-through mesh strip along the waistband of the Tiro 17. Instead, it has been removed and replaced with side mesh panels.
4. Tiro 19 has knee mesh panels – Tiro 17 pants have no mesh panels across the knees, whereas the Tiro 19 pants have mesh panels across the knees.

The Adidas Tiro collection offers the ultimate in training wear, with a collection that includes tracksuit bottoms, jackets, tops, and accessories. Every two years, Adidas upgrades the collection and renames it. For this comparison, I will focus on the training pants.

Tiro 17 represents the Tiro collection for the year 2017, whereas Tiro 19 represents the Tiro collection for the year 2019. Let’s examine both Tiro collections in greater detail.

Design comparison

Adidas claims that the Tiro training pants are breathable track pants that are built to move.

Originally designed as soccer or football pants, they battle the heat with breathable, quick-drying fabric via the ClimaCool technology.

ClimaCool is a unique technology that provides all-around ventilation by using engineered materials to wick away moisture, allowing the fabric to breathe, adjusting to changes in body temperature during exercise.

Fortunately, both the Tiro 17 and 19 come equipped with the same, breathable technology.

The Tiro 17 pants, however, have an additional woven mesh insert below the waist.

This mesh insert, which is an upgrade over the Tiro 17’s predecessor, the Tiro 15, sits just below the elastic waistline and slightly above the rear area, and provides extra ventilation for the lower back area which often gets very sweaty during workouts.

However, the Tiro 19 does not have the see-through mesh strip along the waistband of the Tiro 17. The jury is still out on whether or not the mesh strip near the elastic waistline is beneficial or not, but I personally can’t feel the difference since both are already breathable.

Another aspect worth mentioning is the ankle zips. Both Tiro 17 and 19 have ankle zippers that allow you to wear them or remove them while wearing your shoes.

The ankle zips are a staple of the Adidas Tiro line and will carry over to the Tiro 21, which we’ve compared to the Tiro 19 too.

A glaring difference in the design, however, lies in the iconic three stripes on the sides of both the Tiro 17 and 19 pants. The Tiro 17 three stripes run from the waist only to the knees, whereas the Tiro 19 three stripes run from the waist all the way to the ankles.

Personally, I like the Tiro 19 logo better because it looks cleaner. The three long lines create an illusion of height which adds a sleek look that I really like.

In fact, Tiro 19 also offers a streetwear look that would go so well with clean and minimalistic white sneakers like the Adidas Advantage or Stan Smith.

It’s also important to note that the Adidas logo on the front of the Tiro 17 and 19 is ironed on, so it may eventually start to pick apart after washes. I recommend the black logo option because the white will eventually look ugly when it’s torn apart.

Verdict: I personally like the design of the Tiro 19 better than the Tiro 17. While both Tiro training pants are breathable, the three stripes of the Tiro 19 that stretch from the waist to the ankles are more appealing because they add the illusion of height.

Comfort and fit comparison

I personally own plenty of Adidas Tiro training wear, particularly the training pants, most of which are very comfortable for sports and activities. In fact, both fit true to size.

However, it seems like the Tiro 19 pants are bigger in the thigh area compared to the Tiro 17 model. As a result, the Tiro 17 provides more of a slim-fit look, which highlights the curves of your lower body, whereas the Tiro 19 offers more of a tapered appearance.

I understand what Adidas is trying to accomplish with the roomier butt, as they are trying to make the pants more comfortable for running and squatting. As a result, one of the benefits is that you won’t get any visible panty lines.

In my opinion, the bigger butt area of the Tiro 19 is an improvement over the Tiro 17 because it gives you more freedom to do active movements, like squatting or doing lunges.

Overall, the Tiro 19 is baggier at the top than the Tiro 17, so I recommend the Tiro 19 if you have big thighs or you like a relaxed fit but with a slightly tapered look.

On the other hand, if you like a tight and slim-fit look, I would go for the Tiro 17 pants. 

Another difference between the Tiro 17 and 19 pants is the panel on the knees.

Tiro 17 has no mesh panels across the knees, whereas the Tiro 19 has mesh panels running across the knees. These mesh panels across the knees are designed to add breathability into the pants, so your entire legs can feel comfortable and cool when you do activities.

Unfortunately, some people find the mesh knee panels on the Tiro 19 irritating because they may rub and scratch against the skin.

In fact, many reviewers find them bothersome since there is no way to avoid them because the mesh panels are part of the design cut.

Personally, however, I have no issues with it. Not only do they add a modern flair, in my opinion, but they also make the pants more flexible especially when I bend down or squat.

Verdict: I personally like the comfort and fit of the Tiro 19 better than the Tiro 17. A big reason why is the roomier thigh area, as I don’t like to feel constricted when I do something active like running or going to the gym.

While both Tiro 17 and 19 are breathable and comfortable, the Tiro 19 is better because of the roomier butt and thigh area, which provides a better range of movement. Tiro 19 also has stripes that run from the waist to the ankles, which add an illusion of height.
