Timeline

2019

Ayton was suspended for 25 games on October 24, 2019, after the first game of the 2019–20 season because he tested positive for a diuretic, which is against the league's policy. He returned from his suspension on December 17 and played against the Los Angeles Clippers.

In a 120–99 loss, he scored 18 points and grabbed 12 boards. Ayton then missed the next five games because of a sprained right ankle. He came back on December 30, when the Suns beat the Portland Trail Blazers 122–116, but he came off the bench this time. Ayton played his first game with the University of Arizona on November 10, 2017. They beat the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 101–67, and he had 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the game. His 19 points were the seventh most by a freshman in their first game for Arizona.

During his college career, Duan Risti was Arizona's starting center, while he was used as a power forward. In an 88–82 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide on December 9, 2017, Ayton scored 29 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, which was a season-high at the time.
