How to Break in and Stretch UGG Slippers Quickly

How to Break in and Stretch UGG Slippers Quickly

In short: To stretch and break in UGG slippers, wear them around the house without socks. If the toe boxes still feel tight, add some golf balls in the toe box areas and leave them overnight.

UGG slippers are already comfortable, to begin with, but if your feet feel cramped when they’re brand new, here are some methods you can implement to break in and stretch them.

Are UGG slippers supposed to be tight at first?

UGG slippers are supposed to be tight and snug, but not uncomfortable.

Because they are designed to be worn without socks, make sure your toes are in close proximity to the top of the slippers without curling, and your heels do not slip when you walk.

The inside of the UGG slippers will also become more matted the more you wear them, which means you will end up with a little more room than when you first put them on.

Do UGG slippers stretch out as you wear them?

All genuine sheepskin stretches, so if your UGG slippers are constructed from sheepskin (which all authentic UGG slippers should be), you can expect your slippers to stretch over time.

How long does it take to break in UGG slippers?

Unlike UGG boots, UGG slippers take little to no time to break in. It does not take more than a day or two, but you can wear thick socks to speed up the break-in period of UGG slippers.

How to break in UGG slippers

You don’t need to manually break-in UGG slippers because the inside of the slippers will become matted over time, but you can make them more comfortable by stretching them.

You don’t need fancy chemicals or expensive products to get the job done. After all, genuine suede sheepskin leather and wool are both delicate materials, so please do so with care.

1. Wear them barefoot a little but often

Contrary to popular belief, not wearing socks, in the beginning, is the best way to break in UGG slippers. Do not wear socks during the first few days to achieve the perfect fit for your feet.

Grade-A sheepskin breathes naturally, wicking away moisture, and allowing air to circulate freely, so you don’t have to worry about smelly feet should you choose to go sockless.

Additionally, sheepskin is a naturally thermostatic material. This means it’s automatically regulating your body temperature. You’ll feel cool during hot weather and vice versa.

It’s important, however, to keep your feet as clean and dry as possible during the forming phase. While sheepskin is a breathable material, you don’t want to get them dirty and stained.

Once the UGG slippers fit well, you can wear socks if you wish.

2. Add thick socks to stretch them

You can choose to wear thick wool socks to stretch your UGG slippers further. Try to wear them around the house for 10 to 15 minutes at a time, as often as possible.

The Tasman, which is UGG’s most popular style of slippers, features the same light, durable outsole as the Classic Boots, so you can wear them both indoors and out.

After a week or two, your UGG slippers should be comfortable enough to wear for long hours at a time. The material inside has conformed to the shape of both of your feet.

3. Add golf balls to stretch the toe boxes

If you feel to toe boxes are too tight, even after wearing them for a couple of weeks, here is a simple solution to widen the toe boxes and provide more room inside your UGG slippers:

Insert one or two golf balls inside the UGG slippers width-wise. Leave the golf balls inside the slippers at least overnight, to help achieve the extra wiggle room you desire.

4. Install shoe stretchers

Golf balls work fine, but if you want an even stretch inside your UGG slippers, consider investing in a pair of shoe stretchers. These stretchers do what their name suggests: stretch shoes.

This method works because shoe stretchers are designed to increase the length and width of a pair of footwear, while suede sheepskin leather is a material that stretches naturally.

Unlike regular shoe trees, shoe stretchers come with bunion plugs to stretch most types of shoes and slippers in specific areas (on the sides of the pinky-toe finger, for example).

To use shoe trees, install them into your UGG slippers and leave them to stretch overnight. After a couple of days, your UGG slippers should feel like they’ve been worn.

Indeed, installing shoe stretchers is an effortless way to stretch new slippers and speed up the break-in process. You add some room into your UGG slippers in no time at all.

Bottom line

Now you know how to stretch and break in UGG slippers fast. Wearing them without socks during the first couple of days around the house is the best way to stretch them naturally.

The lining inside the slippers will also become matted the more you wear them, so while you won’t feel a noticeable “stretch”, you’ll end up with more room than when you first put them on.
